Voice
Over IP
VOIP stands for Voice over Internet Protocol. IP is the protocol
over which the whole Internet is running. When voice is carried
over an IP network (Internet), the whole process is called
VOIP. Since Internet is a lot cheaper than the conventional
telephony process, the traffic is quickly converting to IP
from the old telephony process.
When a voice call is initiated between two points,
one or both of these points can be normal telephone (PSTN)
lines. A gateway is required to convert calls from internet
to PSTN or from PSTN to internet. Software is also provided
to find out the destination of the call and route the call
to the proper gateway that can handle the delivery of that
call. Gateways generate all the detail records of all the
calls made.
An economical VOIP calling system can be setup
in a company, whereby office personnel can contact the Field
Service staff such as Drivers and Service Engineers over the
mobile phone economically.
Also we can have a VOIP solution where customers
call in to register the complaint and the Field Resource Centre
calling the service engineers to attend the calls.
Field based operations can be fully integrated
with VOIP solutions for the operation to be more efficient
and economical.
