CHALLENGE:

Our client has outsourced the logistics operations of their contract to BDL, where BDL was asked to supply a web based user-friendly tool whereby the field personnel and the vehicle activities are captured in real-time and published on the web through a secure data link whereby the customer can have the following benefits:

• Greater visibility of the activities of mobile resources through real-time data.
• Detailed live reports of the activities of the mobile resources.
• Web based Management Reports and KPI’s

SOLUTION:

BDL was looking for a system that can track a resource; vehicle or person and communicate with them over the phone and transfer data such as job details, site details, part details etc to a Hand Held Unit (as per our Client requirement). BDL could not identity any supplier who could meet the above requirements of tracking and mobile communications together as a total solution.

Most of the current suppliers of this technology are either dealing in tracking individual items or individual mobile communications solutions. This situation led us develop a total solution application, including hardware, software and networks for the Logistics operation. All the R &D was carried out utilising BDL expertise.

Using its expertise BDL has designed and developed a Web based, Wireless, Tracking and Mobile Communication Solutions for Vehicles and Mobile Personnel/Service Engineers for Logistics and Service Operations.

This is a UNIQUE concept whereby the GPS data from the vehicle and activity of the Driver/Service engineer are captured and integrated in real time and are displayed in the same screen, which gives an enhanced visibility of the resources in real time.

Web based reporting and Management KPI’s (in graphical form) have been developed whereby the customer can access the activities of the Logistics operations from any PC: Example: Daily Activity of the Vehicle/Personnel, Time In, Time Out of the Vehicle/Personnel, Ideal time of vehicle/personnel, Mileage reports for vehicle, Status of job assigned, Jobs attended in a particular day, Report on jobs waiting for collection/delivery/returns etc., Tracking of the status of a particular job, part search by serial no/job number., Executive Summary/KPI Reports – MIS- Graphical Reports on Daily, Weekly, Yearly, Periodical, Summary of All Activities of Mobile Personnel

SUCCESS:

BDL was able to implement a total web based logistics solution within a short period of time as per Client requirement.

The solution provided accurate and timely delivery data in a nearly real-time environment, enabled drivers to make more deliveries due to reduced administration tasks and better access to pickup and delivery locations and routes, cut down on mobile phone costs to monitor or confirm delivers, and streamlined back-office paperwork and communications.
